Media Insurance for Those Working on Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

It’s likely those currently working on the film project Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, will have the best media insurance going.

The entertainment industry is made up of many self-employed freelance operators; right from the actor’s themselves, through to sound technicians, cameramen, and lighting and make-up experts.

It’s one of the industries which rely on self-employed talent and all are encouraged to fully utilise media insurance services. But when it comes to getting the best media insurance deals for themselves, they can sometimes lack the finesse which they demonstrate in their demanding profession. Which is why media professionals need advice and help when it comes to picking the best policy.

The film Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, is based on the great cold war espionage novel of the same name by John Le Carre.

It was one of a series of novels which featured the character of George Smiley, a softly spoken spy which was seen as the antithesis of the likes of Ian Fleming’s James Bond.

Gary Oldman is said to be playing George Smiley, with support from Colin Firth and relative newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch who has recently found fame as the latest incarnation of the famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.

First published in 1974, the book concerns a M16 agent who is ousted after an embarrassing diplomatic incident caused by the head of the service. The agent is brought back into the world of espionage when his old political masters fear that the incident was a ruse to further embed a traitor into the highest levels of MI6.

Some famous names have already played the character of George Smiley on both television and radio, and include George Cole and Simon Russell Beale, and perhaps most memorably, by Sir Alec Guinness, who made the character his own after a fine performance during a major TV drama of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

The production company behind the film is Working Title and the director chosen is Tomas Alfredson. The Swedish Alfredson found fame directing the 2008 horror movie Let The Right One In. The film will be on location in Budapest, Istanbul and London.

Tim Bevan of Working Title said: “The timing is right for a big screen version of Le Carre’s classic novel. It’s great for us to have Tomas onboard who has assembled a stellar cast and will bring a unique vision to the material.”

Oldman has established a long line of creditable performances, including Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film franchise, as well as Lee Harvey Oswald and Sid Vicious. Oldman, who is 52, achieved critical acclaim when he wrote and directed the Bafta award winning drama Nil by Mouth.

No doubt all the self-employed professionals will have up-to-date media insurance.
